Air Warfare Destroyer Systems Centre
The AWD Systems Centre is the national project headquarters housing Defence and industry participants working to bring the AWD design to life.
The Centre accommodates representatives of the AWD Alliance - the Commonwealth, ASC AWD Shipbuilder Pty Ltd, Raytheon Australia Pty Ltd – as well as Navantia, Lockheed Martin Corporation and the United States Navy.
The AWD Systems Centre currently houses over 300 workers, including naval architects, warship designers, system and systems integration engineers and project managers. This critical mass of naval shipbuilding expertise reinforces South Australia’s position as the Defence State.
The centre operates from temporary accommodation at Felixstow and will relocate to purpose-built accommodation at Techport Australia in early 2010. Planning and design for the permanent centre is well advanced.
