Construction Progress

Construction commenced on the Common User Facility in August 2007 following appointment of McConnell Dowell | Built Environs Joint Venture as Managing Contractor.

The Joint Venture is working with a number of local, national and international suppliers to build the facility, including Rolls Royce Marine who will supply and install the massive shiplift.

Key construction milestones achieved

Construction is on schedule for completion in 2010.

General:

October 2007 – site office compound and amenities complete
November 2007 – site preparation work complete
June 2008 – commenced dredging Port River

Runway and Dry Berth:

April 2008 – land pile installation complete (1800 piles)
July 2008 – commenced rail installation
August 2008 – 95% of structural slab concrete pour complete (15,000 cubic metres)

Wharf:

May 2008 – Sheet pile wall construction completed (470 piles)
August 2008 – Wharf backfill complete

Shiplift:

May 2008 – Shiplift piled retaining structure completed (250 piles)
May 2008 – commenced fabrication of shiplift platform
August 2008 – over 25% of winch piles installed
