Environmental Focus

Construction partners on the Common User Facility share an absolute commitment to best environmental practice.  Protecting existing natural ecology and providing a better outlook for tomorrow’s environment are fundamental to our development program.

Defence SA and McConnell Dowell | Built Environs Joint Venture have joined with KESAB, Zero Waste SA and the Environment Protection Authority (SA) in a Clean Site partnership.

During the construction of Techport Australia, a number of measures are being taken to minimise environmental impact.

Initiatives include:

  • flora species of ‘conservation interest’ were ‘plant rescued’ from the site by either seeds or plant cuttings
  • shingle back lizards were relocated from the site to adjacent conservation zones
  • dolphin activity is being monitored and noise levels managed to minimise the impact on the dolphin community
  • storm water control measures are being used to minimise soil loss and sediment runoff into local waterways, and
  • extensive waste separation onsite including initiatives to recycle concrete, steel, timber, as well as bottles and cans.
