Naval Contracts
Techport Australia’s anchor tenant ASC currently has two multi billion dollar naval contracts.
Collins Class Submarines
ASC designed and built the Royal Australian Navy’s current fleet of Collins class submarines between 1987 and 2003.
In 2003 ASC signed a multi-billion dollar, 25 year through-life-support contract for the submarines. A team of around 1000 people work on the maintenance and enhancement of the submarines, until the end of their operational lives.
Air Warfare Destroyers
ASC is the shipbuilder for the next generation Air Warfare Destroyers - one of Australia’s largest and most complex Defence projects valued at $8 billion. ASC will fabricate, assemble, test and develop a through-life support system for the HOBART Class AWDs at its shipbuilding facility at Techport Australia.
The shipbuilding project will have a transformational impact on the South Australian economy. Construction of the three AWDs will provide enormous opportunities for Australia's shipbuilding industry with important flow-on benefits for subcontractors throughout the country.
The AWDs will provide a major leap in Navy’s air warfare capabilities providing anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare capabilities, as well as the ability to embark a helicopter at sea.
The three vessels, which are to be introduced into service from 2013, will be equipped with the world-class AEGIS Combat System that is capable of detecting and defeating multiple hostile aircraft and missiles at ranges in excess of 150 kilometres.
The project entered Build Phase in October 2007.
