Hon Mike Rann MP

Head of South Australia’s Labor Government, Mike Rann was elected Premier in March 2002 and re-elected in March 2006. He holds the portfolios of Economic Development, Social Inclusion, the Arts, and Sustainability and Climate Change in addition to performing his duties as Premier. He was first elected to the South Australian Parliament in 1985 as the Member for Briggs, later Ramsay, and became a member of the Bannon Cabinet in 1989. During that time he held numerous portfolios including Employment and Further Education and, in 1992, Business and Regional Development. He became Leader of the Opposition in 1994 after a brief period as Deputy. Originally from New Zealand, Mike Rann was a journalist with the NZBC before moving to South Australia in 1977 to become press secretary, speechwriter and advisor to three South Australian Labor premiers.
